CHALLENGE & OBJECTIVE

The vision for this project is to address high maternal and child mortality rates through construction of a community hospital providing some of the country’s most advanced maternal and pediatric care directly to rural residents, allowing them to follow up on local clinic referrals. The hospital will provide a blueprint for improving care in rural Uganda generally, critical to improving maternal and child health outcomes in the country.

ACTIONS TAKEN BY RCRA

  • Reviewed plans and received approval from local and national authorities
  • Worked with an experienced local contractor to provide a quantity survey for the hospital
  • Received support from The Community Hospital Association in the UK

CHALLENGE & OBJECTIVE

During the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting the vulnerable in the Rwenzori region has been an important challenge for RCRA. The project aims to prevent and control morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19 in Busongora North and South Counties.

ACTIONS TAKEN BY RCRA

  • Providing personal protective equipment including sanitizers, hand wash shops, facemasks, and aprons to health care workers
  • Training and risk communication were provided to 20 Village Health Team leaders through door-to-door sensitization by village health teams in the entire Busongora North sub-counties

RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Educated over 40,000 people on COVID-19 prevention
