CHALLENGE & OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of this project is to improve the delivery of Women, Children and Adolescent Health (WCAH) services in the Kasese district. In addition to this objective, the project also focuses on successfully accomplishing two sub-targets:

  • To increase evidence and understanding surrounding the impact of Global Financing Facility (GFF) funds on the quality of WCAH services.
  • To strengthen RCRA’s linkages with other Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) partners working in the Kasese district communities

ACTIONS TAKEN BY RCRA

  • In 2019, RCRA produced and published the first scorecard on Global Financing Facility and results-based financing implementation in the Kasese district
  • 20 civil society organizations were trained at a sub-national level in budget advocacy. This training strengthened their capacity to engage in expanded district health management teams
  • Engaging in budget advocacy and expenditure tracking to improve financing for women, children and adolescent services in order to sustain Kasese community interventions

RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

60 young mothers have been trained in a saloon as coiffeurs and later supporting them with start-up kits

CHALLENGE & OBJECTIVE

This program develops integrated support for grandmothers in Uganda who care for children and grandchildren affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty. Additionally, it provides education for grandmothers caring for HIV positive children in 100 households on living a healthy lifestyle, nutrition and disease prevention.

ACTIONS TAKEN BY RCRA

  • Facilitating informative discussions surrounding the topics of hygiene, HIV prevention, nutrition, children’s health, parenting skills
  • Executing workshops to train grandmothers in agricultural input for kitchen gardens

RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • All households in the program received 7kg of seeds for planting while 85 households have received a goat
  • All have received advice on kitchen gardens and on maintaining their own health
  • Each recipient will be asked to donate the first-born goat reared through the program to the next grandmother on RCRA’s waiting list

CHALLENGE & OBJECTIVE

Our principal objective is to accelerate the uptake of various family planning methods in isolated rural communities in the Rwenzori Region

ACTIONS TAKEN BY RCRA

Delivered by a team comprised of 60 Community Health Workers (CHWs) / Village Health Teams (VHTs), 6 Clinicians, 6 Midwives and 2 RCRA technical staff:

  • Meetings with the District Health Office to identify locations and mobilize in-charges
  • Sourcing family planning supplies from the Ministry of Health and development partners (i.e. Uganda Protestants Medical Bureau, Marie Stopes and Reproductive Health Uganda)
  • Training for 60 community health workers to conduct community level mobilization outreaches
  • Convening meetings between local leaders, health workers, the Ministry of Health and communities to dispel myths surrounding family planning and create awareness of the different types of family planning
  • Overseeing nine mobile outreach day-clinics and Backpack Nurse clinics in Busongaora North, Bukonzo and  Busongola South sub-counties of the Kasese district
  • Referring critical patients who could not be managed on site

RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • 257,080 people have been reached with the health services in the clinic
  • 17,056 women have received family planning services
  • 560 information sessions on family planning have been held with young mothers
